We talk a lot about “breaking the stigma” around mental health. But what does that actually mean?

It means making it easier for someone to ask for help without fear of judgment. It looks like parents having honest conversations with their kids. It looks like schools, workplaces, churches, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and community leaders learning how to respond with more awareness and care. It means creating a community where people do not feel ashamed to say they are struggling. That kind of change does not happen all at once. But it starts with conversation, education, and a willingness to show up differently for one another, and that is what the Conversations in Behavioral Health: Building a Mindful Community event on May 7 is all about.Learn more about the event, check out the speaker and breakout session line-up, and register to attend here: whenyouknow.org/conversations-in-behavioral-health-2026/ ... At the heart of Conversations in Behavioral Health is a simple but important idea: building a more mindful community.

For us, that means creating more space for honest conversations about mental health. It means reducing stigma so people feel safer asking for help, offering support, and talking openly about struggles that are too often carried in silence. When we create a community where people feel safe to talk, safe to ask for help, and safe to support one another, we move closer to the kind of place we all want to live in.That is what this event is about. Not just one day of learning, but a larger step toward a community where people feel seen, supported, and less alone.Learn more about our guest speakers and the event agenda, and register to join us here: whenyouknow.org/conversations-in-behavioral-health-2026/ ... Last week, Leadership Polk Class XIX had a blast exploring Southeast Polk! 🍊💐

Through stops at HEART Village hunger education & resource training, Dundee Citrus Growers Association, Nucor Steel Florida, Bok Tower Gardens, Kegel Training Center, and Chemical Containers, Inc., class members saw firsthand how adaptation is a key to success across industries. Along the way, community leaders joined the class on the bus to share the region's history and insights on economic development efforts. The City of Frostproof's Mayor, Michael Hutto, even joined us for a brief tour of the city! The class ended their day in Downtown Lake Wales for a look at the City's downtown revitalization projects and a Taste of Lake Wales, featuring snacks and treats from local businesses. Thank you to our Day Chairs, Deena Drumgo, with the City of Lake Wales, and Rob Quam, with the Lake Wales Care Center, for a wonderful day! 🤩 ... See MoreSee Less
